CYSTOSCOPY

A great deal of urological surgery can be done via a telescope inserted into the bladder.

TRANSURETHRAL RESECTIONS

Both the prostate gland, and some bladder tumours can be most easily treated using a telescope inserted into the bladder.  A spinal anaesthetic is often the best form of anaesthetic for these procedures.

PROSTATE BIOPSY

If you require a biopsy of the prostate, this is done under ultrasound guidance.  We will give you a light general anaesthetic.

RADICAL PROSTATATECTOMY

Surgical removal of the prostate is done via an incision in the abdomen.  The anaesthesia for this procedure is the same as for that described in the section on abdominal surgery.
